SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, has been around since the internet established itself as a business tool. The way Search Engine functions is when an internet user performs a search, they are directed to a listing of websites that matches the keywords in their search. The results returned have the most relevant indexed content based on the search words and have the highest ranking compared to other websites that share the same search keywords.
To achieve a high website ranking, many variables are factored into the search equation, such as the title of the website, the description of the website and if the description also contains the search keywords used, the number of quality inbound links, or Backlinks, on the website, the quality of the websites attached to those Backlinks, and how relevant the Backlinks are to the website.
If you want to optimize the power of any search engine you need to create an internet buzz, or marketing campaign. There are two ways to market your website on the internet, Paid Traffic and Organic Traffic.
Paid Traffic is the small ads you see on the right of the screen and the banners at the top of the page whenever you do a keyword search. These ads will cost you money if you were to use them to advertise you business. DON'T market your business with these ads unless you really know what you're doing and have a large marketing fund.
Organic Traffic is the list of results you receive when you do a keyword search. They usually start with two or three in a green box at the top of the screen and continue down the page. These are listed by the title of the website, the description of the website and the actual link to the website in accordance to the relevance of the keyword search. Organic Traffic is a cheap and easy way to drive traffic to your website. However, unless your website is on the first page and in the top 8 search results for the keywords you want to optimize then your website won't receive the traffic you desire.
So, how do you optimize a Search Engine's results?
Start with the simple task of writing an article, blogging and posting on forums. Each time you write, post or blog about a topic, offer value to the reader whether it's a literature reference or just your professional opinion. You want the reader to see you as a business professional so when they are finished reading they'll be enticed to click on your website link attached to what you wrote. If they find your writings to be helpful, they'll refer it to their business partners and other professionals.
Write 100 articles that provide value to readers who would search for topics related to your business for 100 days. Focus your topic on one key word or phrase and put that phrase in your title, description and body of your article as many times as you can. Search Engines will recognize the keywords and phrases and mark your posting an item of interest. At the end of your post, create a link to your blog, article or website. This is called a backlink and it will maximize your internet exposure ten fold.
Doing this activity every day will build a strong work ethic in you and give your business a leg up on the SEO ladder. You can post the same article on different article websites, just wait for it to be published on the first one before you post it to another. You can also post the article to your blog, but again, wait for it to post on the article website first.
Visit a business forum, find a topic that you specialize in or one you need help with and post a reply or question that is helpful to others. Forums are a great way to network and build relationships with other business professionals.
All this online activity will attract Search Engine queries and in time your website will receive a higher page ranking. This will put your website in the position of an online business professional and your website will receive the traffic it deserves.
